Day 5 - Lets Talk About Anki Walks

Day 5 - Lets Talk About Anki Walks

Let me give you the inside scoop on the single greatest way to:

1) Get motivated to study

2) Get more energy

3) Be productive even – if you cannot be productive.

Background

The "Anki Walk" was recommended to me by some friends of mine who started doing Anki while they walked on a treadmill at the gym.

For the longest time, I thought that the Gym was a sacred space away from school, why would I do something as horrible as bringing Anki into it?

But after I gave in, and gave it a try once, it forever changed how I do Anki.

How To:

If you want to do it my way, I'd recommend getting one of these Anki Controllers. They're incredibly useful if you use Anki, plus it's quite challenging to do this without them.

Anyways, all you have to do is prop your laptop onto a treadmill, set the elevation for 4, and the speed for 2, and just start walking (and doing Anki obv).

Now those are my settings, yours can be different but the key is to find a balance where walking doesn't require a lot of cognitive effort. If you have to remind yourself to keep up with the pace, you're going to fast.

Your heart rate should be <120, in other words, you should be able to keep a conversation going without losing your breath.

Why It Works

The reason I think it works is that exercise naturally tries to promote the metabolism of stored energy. This energy is now not only available for your muscles, but also for your brain now. I regularly see my focus getting better, and my concentration getting better.

Now, by the off chance that you still couldn't focus. You can leave the Anki walk knowing that you still got some exercise in today.

Win-Win!

Alternative Methods

I've noticed that if I don't have easy access to a treadmill, or I don't wanna spend $20 on this anki controller, then I can receive the same benefits from just using my phone and walking around while I do Anki.

Now, I've noticed that if I use my phone, I catch myself going on Social Media or YouTube just from muscle memory. If this is something you struggle with too, set up ways to prevent that from happening. I think there are quite a few apps that let you lock certain apps now.

Anyways that's it for this one. Good luck ✌️
